Once the approved period of OPT has started, any time spent outside of the United States by F-1 students, traveling while unemployed, will count as unemployment against the 90/120-day limits. However, for students traveling while employed (either during a period of leave authorized by an employer or as part of their employment), time spent outside of the United States will not count as unemployment.
