DHS Extends I-9 Compliance Flexibility for Another 30 Days

On July 18th, 2020, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) announced an extension of the flexibilities in rules related to the physical presence requirements associated with the processing of Form I-9 employment eligibility verification for employees. Due to the continued precautions related to COVID-19, DHS has decided to once again extend this policy for an additional 30 days.  The expiration date for these accommodations is now August 19, 2020.

As a way of background, on March 20, 2020, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) announced that it would defer the physical presence requirements associated with the processing of Form I-9 employment eligibility verification for employees. On May 19, 2020, DHS extended this policy for an additional 30 days. On June 16, 2020, prior to this latest announcement, DHS further extended this policy, which was set to expire on July 19, 2020.
